Samsung has great reputation in Android smartphone market . This can be proved by taking a look at sale of Samsung's android smartphones. However only brand name does not mean that you can capture the market again because many companies like xiaomi, lenovo, vivo claim to give better features at affordable price. So to recapture the market again Samsung must have to prove itself.
Sharing our experience about samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus . We have been using it for more 24 hours.
So let's see they are able to break the records again or not.
Look and design
When we heard about 6.2 inch screen of Galaxy S8 + first thought that come in our mind that samsung gonna crazy. Such a large screen ,whats its need but 5.8 inches screen off galaxy s8 is acceptable.
The screen of these phones are come around the border make it border free look. The curved screen finishes after meeting the metal back . The phones looks extraordinary an extra premium even they beat the design of iPhone 7. When we unbox it, every member of our team wanted to touch it. Both phones are available in two different colours midnight black and maple gold but there is one new colour for galaxy S8 + that is blue which look marvelous.
Since Galaxy S8 + has 6.2 inch large screen so we thought that it is little tougher to hold but company has given it more length rather than width which make it is easy to handle.
But people who are using other smartphone may feel some difficult to hold it because it is little thinner than other smartphones. Eccept the size both phones have same look.
Because of curved screen phone does not have enough space on the side of phone. There is a power button on right and volume rocker on left side of phone. In both phones company has given uSB portal and 3.5 mm audio jack at the bottom of the phone. You will see hybrid dual sim slot on top of the phone. We don't like hybrid sim slot because it gives you choice either to choose sim micro SD card. Both phone have IPS 68 for the protection of water and dust.
Coming to back of the phone, there is a camera in centre with flash and heart rate sensor on one side and fingerprint sensor on the other side off camera. This make it little bit ugly.
Due to long size of phone it is little tougher to reach fingerprint sensor. You have to stretch your finger to reach it. Another problem is that both camera and fingerprint sensor feels same . In our opinion this new experiment with fingerprint sensor is ridiculous. Fingerprint sensor must be better below camera like older phones have .
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus specifications
The version that launched in India uses Samsung's own Exynos 8895 Soc while that in America uses latest version of qualcomm which is snapdragon 835. Snapdragon is all best so we think that India gets second best version of galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. Exynos 8895 has four custom M2 CPU Core and 4 ARM cortex A53 Core running on 1.9 GHz processor. Company has also given ARM - Mali g71 gPU which increases graphics performance by 60%.
This phone have 4 GB RAM and 64GB internal memory. These dual SIM smartphone supports 4G volte which run on gigabyte speed.
We are unable to understand why companies focusing on hybrid sim slot that is you have to choose either sim or micro SD card.
The company also giving latest technology in bluetooth that is version 5.0 which is made for better speed transfer and longer range. There is also a Wi-Fi 802.11 aC , NFC and GPS.
Size of Samsung Galaxy S8 is 5.8 inch and that of Galaxy S8 plus is 6.2 inch but both phone have same resolution which is 1440* 2960. So Galaxy S8 has advantage of screen resolution. Due to curved screen you will lose some resolution get 5.6 and 6.1 in rectangular box.
One another thing we noticed that due to 18.5:9 aspect ratio several app run leaving space on the top. But Samsung tried to cover this is space by giving some buttons.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus software
Although both phones supports 1440*2960 but by default they came in 1080*2220. You can increase screen resolution or you can decrease. Samsung uses all of its phone display in very good manner when you run preloaded app but when it comes to third party app, as I say earlier, there is a black Bar space on the top which looks awkward.
Samsung has given some preloaded apps such as Microsoft Office skype and some Samsung basic apps.
Some of the apps of Samsung ask sign in Samsung account. Some apps of both Samsung and Google do same thing but we have to contain both the apps in our mobile because we not uninstall them.
Samsung has given a new app known as my Galaxy from which you can do many things single app such as you can order food from Zomato, music from wynk ,hotels and flight tickets goibibo, show ticket from BookMyShow, pay bills from ICICI.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus performance
Both of phones have large screen an Unexpected aspect ratio which make it hard to handle day to day use. But when you will use to it I am sure it will be no big deal for you.
The screen resolution is good and colours are bright but for this you have to your phone in a particular watching angle. This is really unexpectable from samsung at such a high price. Curved glass of screen sometime difficult to used websites on browser and playing games like Dead Trigger. but there is a rare problem while using app . Samsung has given Google assistant which can be launched by pressing button for a while.
Due to 4 GB RAM there is no problem in multitasking using several apps at same time.
Along with fingerprint sensor even Iris scanner and face detection to unlock your phone can choose only one of them. We tested all the three in which finger Print sensor work almost 95% time, face detection works 70% time, scanner iris scanner works 50%. Fingerprint sensor is good but holding your phone in front of you and public for Iris scanner and face detection is awkward.
Coming to sound ,as usual , you will get good sound quality from these two phones but a little bit low sound even at high volume. In my opinion are unable to beat dolby atmos of Lenovo.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus camera performance
Whenever a person by smartphone we must check phone's camera quality. Some people think but better smart phone means better camera.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus flagship smartphone shooting camera must have to perform good.
Although these are little expensive phone multi do not but they do not have dual camera. We are expecting dual camera because even mid range range phones featuring real camera.
Galaxy S8 and S8 plus both are brilliant camera app which launchers very quickly which many smartphones failed to. Both phone have good shutter speed and they capture images very quickly.
The camera also adjust itself very quickly when we shifted it from bright to dark bright or dark to bright reason. The camera also focus itself very quickly.
One strangest thing we noticed that camera app is integrated with Bixy. The benefit of Dixie is that it detects when the camera is pointed and give useful tool according to that. But sometime it is unable to detect where the camera is pointed.
The daylight picture are impressive. Images show would details and colour textures. In low light and night images captured by holding phone steady and good but whenever your hand shakes little bit image get very little blurred.
You can record 4K video but only for 10 minute. One thing we noticed that during video capture in landscape mode it slips from our hand and it is hard to maintain our grip on phone.
For selfie lover front camera works well in day and night also. Front camera managed to show good details, colour and texture. Front camera is perfect 7 selfie camera.
Conclusion
Overall design of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus is good with curved screen and they look premium but samsung has to realise that everyone do not like curved screen.
Performance of both phones are also good .With 4 GB RAM you will feel no problem in day to day work. Camera of both phone are excellent captures good images
But containing all these it is little bit costly. This phone can be alternative of iPhone 7 for those love android more than iOS.
