5G coming soon in India

The Cellular Operators Association of India of COAI held a meeting with the partners of 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) and the Global Certification Forum. Global standard and device certification for 5G were planned in this meeting. The meeting was held in Hyderabad from 13 January to 17 January. In this meeting, the stake holders of Government of India, Academia and others participated. It also discussed the global standard for 5G deployment in India and certification requirements for the device. Apart from these stake holders, 5GIF (5G in India Forum) also participated.

The Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) comprises seven Telecommunication Standards Development Organizations and Associated Organizations working for the development of 3GPP technology, including radio access core network and service capabilities, etc. Under this project work is being done for cellular telecommunication technology and ecosystem development for 5G network. 3GPP is also currently working towards creating an enabling environment for rapid 5G network development around the world to develop this next generation telecommunication technology in every country of the world.

During the meeting of the 3GPP Specification Group (SA6) at this meeting held in Hyderabad, technical specifications and various applications related to critical communication (eg mission critical applications) and standards related to the relevant field, etc. were discussed and reviewed. Representatives of more than 40 companies from around the world attended the meeting. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Department of Telecommunications and Indian Railways as well as academics. During this meeting, COAI also discussed about 5G, 5G New Radio (NR), Internet of Things (IoT) and MCX certification. More than 40 device manufacturers, testing laboratories and senior officials of the Department of Telecommunications also attended this meeting.
