Samsung had launched a new phone in Samsung Galaxy A Series. With its premium design and build quality, practical features, and impressive battery life, this is one of the most interesting Galaxy phones this year. The company had refreshed this series regularly . We had seen this this phone very closely because we know that this company has very high reputation in Indian as well as world market. This company is also one of the favorite company of our group.
Look and Design
If you had seen the advertisement and commercials in Television and Newspaper, the company’s main focus is metal-and-glass construction. This is similar to galaxy S6. In the front and back there's curved Gorilla Glass 4 for the front and the back of the device, which makes it look and feel a lot classier than its earlier version. In the front, the company had given 5.2-inch full-HD Super Amoled display .
The A5 has very thin edge with sound and lock button on the side. An unexpected thing is that they had given fingerprint sensor on Samsung’s identity that is on the home button on the front of the phone. The bigger battery and Gorilla Glass is felt by us while we are holding in our hand because its weight is slightly greater than older edition. The Galaxy A5(2016) is a dual SIM smartphone. Not like other phone it has given a dedicated micro SD card. Other had given hybrid SIM slot. The glass on the back does make the phone a bit slippery to hold and we wish there had been a notification LED.
Display
The 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy A5 (2016) packs a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. Generally people must be attracted by its 1080 p display. Display that delivers vibrant colours and excellent sunlight legibility. The colour sometime oversaturate. In auto mode, the display can get pretty bright, to ensure good visibility even in sunlight.
As far we look the display we feel that company had increased its colour production and display quality from previous version.
Specifications
The Galaxy A5 (2016) packs Samsung's own octa-core Exynos 7580 SoC in its heart. We are not happy with this processor because this is the same processor which we got see in Samsung Galaxy J7. There is very large difference in price of both the phone. Some modifications have been made, as the SoC in the A5 runs at a slightly higher 1.6GHz and supports faster Category 6 LTE.
The other specifications include 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage which can be expanded up to 128GB, dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, FM radio, and USB OTG. The A5 supports 4G on both SIM slots.
Software
Samsung Galaxy A7 runs on Android 5.1.1. This is really disappointing because this very long time for Marshmallow to be launched. It runs on Samsung’s custom user interface TouchWiz which is ,as always, give a tremendous performance .Some who likes the older version on this UI must also like this because this is so simple to use than older version.
This time Samsung involves own app in this phone such as S Health, S Voice, and My Galaxy. There's also the Ultra Data Saving mode found in the J-series, powered by Opera Max. This helps compress Internet data so you don't end up exhausting your monthly data pack too soon. This feature may attract Indian customers. You get a USB Backup app which lets you back up data to an OTG pen drive. Samsung also bundles several of Google's and Microsoft's popular apps.
Camera
The primary camera comes with a 13-megapixel sensor with a decently large f/1.9 aperture and optical image stabilisation. Due to its large aperture it phone is able to capture good image with detailed landscapes and macros in daylight. But we slightly disappointed with image taken in low light with less details but comparison with other phone available this shows better images. There is a pretty decent HDR mode, but it is slow, and there is no real-time preview that shows how such a shot will turn out. The camera’s ‘professional’ mode is fairly basic. It offers manual control over white balance, exposure and ISO values from 100 upwards. Coming to front camera , it has 5-megapixel front camera with an f/1.9 aperture so you can get detailed selfies even indoors. The shutter speed of camera is very good and it captures and save image with good speed but it has problem of focus as it take too much time focus. This problem is a seen during video recording too. Although it takes a video of 1080p with a crisp recording.
As we seen in its us UI , we expected the change in camera app but camera app is as simple as old version. If you wanted to more about camera app , you can see older phones of Samsung.
Performance
Generally talking about the performance , the overall performance is good but not very good. The phones generally does good job during multitasking. We do not face any problem of heating during multitasking. But phone got little bit warmer in playing heavy game and during g long video playing like movies. Galaxy A5 supports 4G and we do not feel any problem in this network networks with a SIM in either slot.
We expected that performance of Samsung will be excellent but it does not. Taking the example of fingerprint sensor. Company had given this sensor at unique place that is at home button of Samsung but sensor does not works accurately. It has 16 GB of phone storage and out of the 16GB of storage, you have around 11GB of actual usable space.
We managed to get 41,900 points in AnTuTu and 13fps in GFXbench. The GPU score was a bit lower when compared to the Adreno GPU in the 615 SoC.
Sound is fairly loud through the mono speaker. The audio player is very feature-rich, with plenty of settings for tweaking the audio quality.
Battery
The Galaxy A5 is powered by 2900mAh battery. Company had increased battery size but they did not manage weight as increasing battery increase weight and thickness too. In spite of all this problems battery had given tremendous performance and it goes up to 14 hour and 40 minutes in our video loop test. The phone also supports Adaptive Quick Charging and we were able to go from zero to a little more than 50 percent in just half an hour.
Conclusion
The company had done tremendous job in all segments expect performance. But phone’s price which Rs 28500 (440$) ,may be downfall for the sale of this phone. The Galaxy A5 excels in terms of build and aesthetics, packs an excellent display, and offers very good battery life. We quite liked the quality of pictures it takes too, although the camera app could have been designed better.
According to us all these feature can be also available in the range of Rs 15000 to Rs 20000 (230$ to 308$). We would say that think before to buy.
